About The Graduate Institute

Convenience for Today's Learners

As a state-accredited, not-for-profit institution of higher education, The Graduate Institute is dedicated to making your educational experience convenient, affordable, and highly meaningful to your personal goals and objectives. With classes one weekend each month and accelerated admissions, we provide the opportunity to earn a unique master’s degree or certificate, advance your career, and create something that has lasting value.

TGI was established in 1999 to offer singular and dynamic graduate programs in contemporary and emerging fields of intellectual and academic inquiry. We were granted a license to operate graduate programs by the Connecticut Board of Governors of Higher Education in 1999, were accredited by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education in 2003, and were chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 2005.

We offer our students the opportunity to become colleagues in a community of learning, where they pursue professional development and personal discovery. Students take active roles in determining what's learned and how, making our programs highly self-directed as well as applicable to the real world.

Our faculty members are devoted scholars and practitioners who advance their fields of study. They facilitate learning through dialogue, seminars, experiential exercises, online communication, and by guiding field-based practicum experiences.

TGI is an approved institution for military veterans who are eligible to receive education benefits under the federal GI Bill. Learn more on our admissions page

We are an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity organization. We don't discriminate in our education programs or in admission to, access to, treatment in, or employment in its programs or activities. TGI is governed by, and conforms to the regulations and policies articulated in, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
