Award Winning Documentary 'Connected' screening at The Graduate Institute

The Graduate Institute is excited to announce the screening of the award winning Documentary ‘Connected’ on Friday, October 16th at 6pm at our main campus, 171 Amity Road, Bethany, Conn.

Following the screening, representatives from TGI certificate and degree programs will be on hand to discuss the issues presented in the film and how the unique programs at TGI address these issues.

Have you ever faked a restroom trip to check your email? Slept with your laptop? Or become so overwhelmed that you just unplugged from it all? These are the questions posed by filmmaker Tiffany Shlain in her award-winning documentary.

Connected premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and has garnered significant attention since, winning 15 awards and distinctions, including having been selected by the U.S. State Department to be part of the 2012 American Film Showcase. The film is also used in over 200 educational institutions around the world. According to Shlain, Connected explores how, after centuries of declaring our individual independence, it may be time for us to embrace interdependence instead.

Shlain also expounds on this theme in her blog post Tech's Best Feature: The Off Switch which appeared in the Harvard Business Review Blog Network in March.

Raising Shitake Mushrooms at Home with Stuart and Cynthia Rabinowitz

Thursday, May 28  |  6 - 9pm

During this workshop we will share what we have learned about raising these delicious and very nutritious mushrooms. You will learn how to create a “mushroom log” using purchased mushroom spores impregnated into a hardwood log.  You will learn how to care for the logs during the first year after inoculation and we will share our own method of caring for the logs during the mushroom forcing phase.  Using our method permits the growth of clean mushrooms free from slug damage. Each registrant will take home a mushroom log.

Cost: $45
